Zoe Pollock, 10, gives “Jalouise” the donkey her first trim. A pack of hairy donkeys have had their dreadlocks cut for the first time in 17 years to help them keep cool in the hot weather. The rare French breed, called Baudet du Poitou, are not meant to be groomed, so their coat is left to grow into long dreadlocks. Picture: Zachary Culpin/ Solent News & Photo Agency
Medici Falchion
This glorious sword is one of the finest replicas we have ever produced. It has an unparalleled quality ad attention to detail from the inscribed coat of arms on the blade to the weight and balance of the original sword. The blade is etched with the personal coat of arms of Cosimo de’ Medici 1519-1574 and encircled with the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
As Duke of Florence between 1564, when he was inducted to the Order of the Golden Fleece and 1569 when he was created Grand Duke of Tuscany and his coat of arms changed, dates this sword to this specific period. The pommel is sculpted as a lion’s head, while the guard is a low relief of acanthus leaves with the curved quillions terminating in small lion’s heads and a lion’s face on the shell.
This furniture is done in solid bronze covered in gold. The grip is bound in blackened steel and bronze wire. The blade has two fullers which run nearly the full length of the blade. The short ricasso block is decoratively etched on both sides and the coat of arms extending down the fullered body of the blade.
The exceptional quality of this piece and intensity of effort to produce it has led us to offer this sword as a limited edition. The total made not to exceed 250. Your sword will be struck with a production number on the edge of the ricasso and will be sent with a certificate of Limited Edition signed by the smith.
